Our renowned 7-Stage Wax Oil (Waxoyl) – Protection for underside, chassis and cavities of your car or van.

Salty water causes underbody corrosion

Pembrokeshire’s especially salty rain water causes underbody corrosion

When it rains, it pours. In Pembrokeshire this rain (as we are all too aware) is not only abundant, but saline – a result of our proximity to the sea. It’s no surprise then, that over the years, we have observed a high proportion of vehicles coming through our workshop suffering deep, often dangerous levels of corrosion, many of which are MOT failures costing hundreds of pounds to rectify. In every case, applied early enough (and even if corrosion has started), the lives of these vehicles could have been prolonged greatly with an underbody wax oil treatment.

We are often asked “what’s the best way to prevent my car rusting away?” or “do you think it’s worth getting my car wax oiled?”. We would always recommend (if the corrosion hasn’t gone “too far”) a wax oil treatment which is well worth it if you are planing the keep the vehicle in the medium – long term, it will save you a lot of money.

The 7-Sage Process

1.Jetwash underbody to remove mud and dirt. Allow to dry thoroughly, 2-3 days.

Pressure washing vehicle underbody

We start by jet washing the underside using specialist pressure washing equipment after a snow foam treatment to break down the dirt build up.

 2. Lift vehicle, take pre-work photos. Remove all wheels. Remove undertrays/ wheel house liners etc as necessary.

3. Sheet entire vehicle and mask off to prevent contamination of rest of vehicle. Assess level of prep required and confirm level of treatment customer requires and estimate for work.

4. Remove corrosion and loose material with appropriate tool: pneumatic chisel, needle gun, wire wheel, blow gun etc. (There is an additional cost on application depending on the level of corrosion and treatment required).

5. Apply Rust Converter (e.g Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 or Kurust equivalent) +£100

6. Apply Waxoyl (clear or black) to entire undercarriage including suspension components, underbody, chassis etc and cavities inc. chassis, inner sills, inner suspension components e.g wishbones, axles etc. Also inner and (if appropriate) outer wheel arches and sills.

You can choose between clear and black wax oil (Waxoyl) for your preferred finish. If you would like, we can recommend an option to best suit the application.

7. Carry out numerous post application checks with a head torch to ensure complete coverage is achieved. Take post-work photos.

Dent Repairs

We use different techniques depending on the extent of the dent(s). Where possible, we will apply a modern technique called PDR (painless dent removal) to keep the costs as low as possible. However, it may be necessary to fill the dent(s) or use a combination of methods to make the repair before priming, flatting and painting to achieve an original finish.

Kerbed and scuffed alloy wheel refurbishment

Wheel kerbing, chipping damage and scratches are frequent; however buying new alloys wheels can be expensive. A standard painted refurbishment is a cost effect way of bringing new life and a polished look back to your wheels.

Alloy wheel scuffs and scratches

Standard alloy wheel scuffed

Haworth Autobody can restore your alloys to either their original finish or your own colour specification for a new look.
To ensure they have a pristine blemish free finish and long life, a standard painted refurbishment will include acid dip and sand blasting the wheels back to the bare metal and repairing any damage before powder coating. A wheel refurbishment can bring most alloy wheels back to being as close to brand new as possible.

Diamond Cut Alloy Wheel Refurbishment

What is a diamond cut wheel?

This is an alloy wheel which has been put on a lathe and part of or the entire painted surface of the wheel machined off to leave a shiny alloy finish. A small part of the actual alloy is machined off to create this finish. It is then lacquered over to prevent corrosion.

Are diamond cut alloys more expensive?

Yes, they are more expensive to buy and refurbish if damaged due to the extra steps such as “lathing” necessary for a quality repair, and they might not suit any vehicle, but for those cars that look good with diamond cut rims, there is no better choice.

What is the difference between standard alloy wheels and diamond cut alloy wheels?

A traditional alloy wheel is painted completely by powder coating or a wet spray technique often one colour, the wheels are painted for aesthetic appeal and to stop weather corrosion. Diamond cut alloy wheels will have a part polished and lathed metal face with a layer of lacquer over the top for protection.

Can you powder coat over diamond cut wheels?

Yes, you can indeed have your diamond cut wheels refinished in powder coat and treated just like standard alloys. This option is great for those who are not worried so much with aesthetics or aren’t too keen on the diamond cut finish in general and as the cost is the same for standard alloy wheels, it can save money too.

Corrosion, damage and split rims causing tyre pressure loss

We generally find a full wheel strip back and refurb is necessary to alleviate slow loss of tyre pressure from corrosion so that the seal between tyre and alloy rim is perfect. Split rims, deep and heavy damage due to curbing can usually be fixed by welding and grinding, sanding or lathing the rim back to it’s original form. Please ask us for an evaluation and advice – we’re here to help in any way we can.
